Wrenfield Burr Walnut Round Pedestal Dining Table with Carved Chairs | Classical English Chippendale Style Dining Set in Leather - EKAR FURNITURE Not every formal dining set needs gold in it, and the Wrenfield Burr Walnut Round Dining Set by EKAR FURNITURE makes its case entirely out of timber. It is a classical English-style dining set in the round, a pedestal table accompanied by a group of carved dining chairs in matching wood, and the whole group is left as wood, polished rather than painted, carved rather than applied. The interest comes from the figure of the burr walnut across the tabletop and from the pierced carving in the chair backs, with the seats dressed in deep button-tufted leather. It reads warm, solid, and settled rather than decorative, which is why it works so well in rooms where the architecture is already strong. We build it as bespoke custom furniture in our Foshan furniture factory, to your own diameter, seat count, wood, and leather.
The table is built around its top. The surface is veneered in burr walnut laid out as a radiating sunburst from the centre, wedge-shaped pieces of figured wood running outward to the edge so the entire surface appears to open like a fan, with the deep amber and honey tones of the burr shifting as light crosses the room. Cutting that figure to a circle and keeping the rays even takes real care in the layup, and the surface is then finished to a soft, open polish rather than a thick gloss, so the figure can be read as wood rather than as glass under a sheet. The top sits on a moulded ebonised-free edge and is carried on a single turned column, a swelling bell-shaped pedestal with carved and ringed detailing at its head and foot, which falls to a spreading base finished with carved claw feet. That pedestal arrangement is the practical strength of the set, since with no corner legs intruding, every chair can be pulled in close and guests sit comfortably at any position around the circle.
Because this set depends on timber alone, the way it is built and finished matters more than ornament would. The carcase is constructed to allow solid wood to move with the seasons without lifting or checking, the veneer is pressed and matched so the figure answers itself across the centre line, and the turning of the column is taken from solid stock so the mouldings stay concentric. The polish is hand-rubbed in thin coats, warmed to bring out the amber in the burr, and cured in-house so it takes a glass, a hot plate, and daily wiping without going dull or marking white. As export furniture, the column and base are engineered to bolt together rigidly so a round pedestal table never rocks or creaks after a full meal, and the entire set is packed in-house with the tops, columns, and chair seats protected for container shipping and assembled cleanly on site.
The chairs carry the decorative weight. Their backs are built on a shaped, arched crest with scrolled shoulders at either side, and the centre is worked as an open, pierced splat, slender carved ribs rising and curving outward in a ribbon-like arrangement from a carved shell at the base to a clustered floral motif beneath the crest rail. This kind of carving is worked through solid timber so it reads cleanly from both sides of the chair, which matters on a round table where every chair is seen in profile. The seats are drop-in, cushioned and faced in dark leather, hand-button-tufted into a deep diamond and edged with a line of hand-set nailhead trim where the upholstery meets the frame. The front legs are cabriole, carved at the knee and curving forward to the floor, while the rear legs rake backward to give an easy sitting angle, and on the arm chairs the rails sweep forward with gently shaped, padded rests. The frames are joined, blocked, and glued to stay rigid despite the slender carved members.
In the room, the Wrenfield suits a country house dining room, a breakfast room, a private library or study where meals are taken at a round table, a hotel's private dining room, or a member's club, anywhere a set is expected to look inherited rather than bought. Its all-wood warmth sits naturally with moulded panelling, deep paint colours, Persian and oriental rugs, brass and crystal lighting, leather-bound shelving, and cream or sage walls. There is consistent demand for solid-timber English-style dining furniture of this kind in the India import furniture market, where buyers in Mumbai and New Delhi specify round pedestal tables with carved, leather-seated chairs for farmhouse dining halls, villas, and heritage-style hotel restaurants built around long shared meals.
